“Fake News” and the Case for Media Literacy Across All Grades

Monday, May 08, 2017 - 2:00 pm CDT

In the past year, there has been a heightened interest in trying to decipher what the differences are between “real vs. fake” news and how to best educate our students that what is real is critical to their interpretation of how global headlines will impact them. In this edWebinar, Russell Kahn, Chief Content Officer for News-O-Matic, will discuss at a high level how we can collectively provide unlimited access to daily, digital news articles to promote empowerment, engagement and citizenship in an age-appropriate, relatable and informative manner.

Join to find out what your students need to know about real vs. fake news, and what it means to be a digital citizen. A Q&A segment will follow Russell’s presentation. K-8 teachers, curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches, literacy coaches, and school librarians are invited to this live, interactive event.

This edWebNet webinar is sponsored by myON. If you attend the live session, you’ll be emailed a CE certificate within 24 hours of the edWebinar. If you view the recording and would like a CE certificate, join the Building a Community of Readers community and go to the edWebinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz.
